[edit] ClueCon Letter
This is a tentative letter to parents of Cluenet users that would like to attend. Please edit and/or extend this to make it seem its best. After a few days, Crispy or Cobi can email it to the parents involved, or individual users can print it and hand it to them.
Hello,
We're writing to you because we would like your child to join us at a Cluenet Convention that is being held this year in Cincinnati, Ohio. Cluenet is an online network that formed about a year ago that focuses on sustaining a close community, helping each other learn, and providing online users with many free services. It's a small network and the users have known each other for years in most cases. We'd all like to meet each other in person, and are in the process of arranging a meeting later this summer.
We understand that you may not want your child to come because you have concerns about him leaving on his own to go to another state to meet people that he has never seen before. There's been a lot of bad press recently about the Internet and about arranging meetings online. I assure you that we are all honest people and have no bad intentions. Your child is responsible on his own and can take care of himself. We will raise all the money necessary ourselves, so you don't have to pay anything. If you don't believe the authenticity of this, one of the Cluenet members can send you a signed GPG-encrypted version of this with a public key uploaded to the official website accessible via SSL.
Cluenet's users vary somewhat in age, but most (and all that are coming to this convention) are 14-18 years old. Parents of at least one of the members will be there at all times as well. Only the members of the community that have contributed the most and have participated a lot over the last few years are invited. Currently, there are one Cluenet users that are almost definitely attending. We would really like to have your child participate as well.
If your main concern is about your child going to meet people that he has never met before, you can talk to Cluenet representatives over the phone, online, or (if you or your child are capable of doing so) over an Internet video-phone. Thank you for reading this, and please consider letting your child attend.
Sincerely,
The Cluenet Administration.
