The Cluenet Account Shell is an interface that you can use to change some of your account settings, as well as the interface for account creation, SSH voting, etc.

Contents

Connecting

To connect, use this command:

ssh acctshell@radian.cluenet.org

This means to SSH (using either the command above or a GUI client like PuTTY) to the host radian.cluenet.org with the username acctshell.
The password is acctshell. The port is 22.

If there is a DNS error, which is unlikely, try using this command:

ssh acctshell@70.85.16.91

Functions

Signing Up

The account shell provides the interface for new users to sign up. The exact process is described in much more detail here. In short, you will be asked to provide an email address, and it will email you a verification code. That code can be verified via another menu item in the account shell, at which point you can request an account that an existing user can verify.

Update Account

If there are updates available to your account, this will allow you to upgrade your account to support the new features. Among other things, it will make sure you have a Kerberos principal and you have the necessary basic authorizedService attributes.

Changing Password

This does the same thing as the 'passwd' command on the shell servers, except that it can forcefully override the Kerberos password. Once you authenticate to the account shell with your LDAP password, this will change both your LDAP password and Kerberos password, even if they somehow got desynchronized.

Editing Account Properties

You can use this to change the properties of your LDAP entry. The properties that you can change are:

  • gecos (Real name, as given in the passwd file)
  • loginShell (Change your default shell for logging in to systems)
  • cn (Publicly viewable full name)
  • givenName (First name)
  • sn (Last name)
  • c (ISO 3166 country code)
  • st (State or province)
  • l (Locality/City)
  • telephoneNumber
  • postalAddress
  • clueIrcNick (This is verified with NickServ before you are allowed to change it)
  • clueVoipURI (VOIP URI for contacting you)
  • clueGender (male or female)
  • clueBirthYear (birth year)

None of these attributes (except loginShell and clueIrcNick) are required, but all are appreciated. Most of them are not publicly viewable. See Cluenet LDAP Attributes for more information.

Apply for SSH Access

You can use the interface to apply for an account upgrade to get SSH access, if you don't already have it. See Signing Up for more information on this process.

Special Permissions

There are several different functions (relating to account maintenance) that can be accessed by users with the privileges. These include:

  • Activating newly created accounts.
  • Voting for SSH account applications.
  • Administratively approving SSH account applications.

If you want one of the first two privileges, they will probably be readily granted if you ask an administrator.
